NYK Inks Long-Term Charter Contract for New Aframax Tanker

March 26, 2004

NYK has concluded a long-term charter contract for a new double-hull Aframax crude oil tanker in order to resume Aframax service in the crude oil tanker division, as follows:

Shipowner
:
Hakuyo Shipping Co., Ltd. (?)
Date of Completion
: October 2006 (at Sasebo Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.)
Ship Type : 115,000-deadweight-ton crude oil tanker (double hull)

The chartering of the above vessel will bring to four the total number of NYK-controlled Aframax crude oil tankers, including one double-hull vessel (105,000-DWT, completed in 1998 and operated by Teekay Shipping under a time-charter contract) and two vessels for which long-term charter contracts have already been concluded (107,000-DWT, to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2004 and 115,000-DWT, to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2005).

As regards the above three vessels to be newly built, NYK is considering deploying them not only in the Asian and Oceanian areas but also in the European and Mediterranean regions in line with the overseas strategy of its crude oil tanker division. Henceforth, NYK will continue to further expand its Aframax fleet while keeping a close watch over the relevant economic circumstances.
