NYK Forms Logistics Subsidiary in Brazil

December 25, 2003

Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line) established a logistics subsidiary in Brazil - NYK Logistics do Brasil - on December 16, 2003. The new firm plans to provide total logistics services to Brazilian markets by setting up three distribution centers by the end of 2004. The first warehousing facility is scheduled to open in suburban Sao Paulo in April 2004.

1. Background

NYK has mapped out a Logistics Strategy Plan aimed at bolstering and expanding its logistics business division. One of the plan's strategic targets is to cultivate new markets in South America, Eastern Europe and other parts of the world.

NYK recently received an outsourcing logistics order from Yamaha Motor do Brasil, Ltda., a Brazilian subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. Taking this opportunity, NYK has decided to set up its own logistics subsidiary and enhance its global network.

The new firm, NYK's first logistics hub in South America, will operate under the control of NYK Logistics (Americas), Inc., the regional headquarters for the Americas, and will provide proactive logistics services that meet the needs of Yamaha Motor and other customers.
