New Ship-Related Data Analysis Systems "ALIS" and "VEGA" Inaugurated
June 9, 2003
NYK has developed and put into operation two new vessel data analysis systems, "ALIS" and "VEGA", to further reinforce operational safety and efficiency and to help protect the global environment.
"ALIS" collects data on ship operations with a view to enhancing operational safety and efficiency, while "VEGA" analyzes data on the environmental impact of vessel operations in order to make a positive contribution to the protection of the global environment.
Along with the inauguration of the two new systems, NYK has improved the functional efficiency of its "VPAS" system, which has been in operation since 1988 when its Ver.1 was introduced.VPAS analyzes the performance of a vessel, based on operational data to assess the vessel's operating condition.
The integrated management of the operational data produced by this system and the two new systems will make posible for NYK to conduct analyses with greater rapidity and accuracy.
| ALIS | : | Shipboard collection and accumulation of operational data for transmission to onshore systems |
| VEGA | : | Analysis of environment-related data, based on ship operating data. This system can probe and analyze the possible effects on the environment of such emissions as CO2 and Nox. It is the first system of its kind to be introduced by the world's shipping community. |
NYK has always speedily provided accurate data to various surveys on environmental impact conducted by customers, shippers and research bodies in support of their activities aimed at environmental protection.
In this context, the introduction of the two new systems is considered to be of immense significance from the viewpoints of better ensuring the safe operation of vessels and of protecting the global environment. NYK said the new systems will enable it to further enhance its service standards.
