New Directors and Executive Officers

Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) on Thursday announced its new directorship lineup and the election of new executive officers.

The directorship appointments are expected to be approved at the group's 116th regular shareholders' meeting and subsequent board of directors meeting to be held on June 27. The executive officer appointments will become effective on April 1.

I. Directors and Executive Officers (as of June 27)
  1. Retiring Directors:

    The following directors will step down from their present posts:

    Chairman Jiro Nemoto (who will become honorary chairman of NYK); executive vice-president/executive officer Kuniaki Shirakuma (NYK senior advisor); executive vice-president/executive officer Kazuhira Kamiya (NYK corporate auditor),;senior managing director/executive officer Kin-ichi Hirayama (president, Tokyo Senpaku Kaisha, Ltd.); senior managing director/executive officer Masaru Yamamoto (NYK advisor, head of Maritime Technology Institute (MTI) preparatory committee and marine technology director of Global Ocean Development, Inc. which is developing the scientific riser drilling vessel Chikyu); managing director/executive officer Takehiko Kakei (vice-president, Shinwa Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd.); and director/executive officer Shin-ichi Miwa (NYK advisor on international finance).

  2. New Director:

    Executive officer Takao Manji, chief executive officer (CEO) of NYK Shipmanagement Pte. Ltd., will be promoted to managing director. He will retain his position as executive officer.

  3. Other Promotions:

    Senior managing director Tadatoshi Mamiya will assume the post of executive vice-president; managing directors Yoshihiro Uesu, Yukio Ozawa and Koji Miyahara will become senior managing directors; and directors Takahiro Ota, Koichi Aoki and Hiromitsu Kuramoto will become managing directors. These directors are also executive officers and will retain those positions.

  4. Retiring Corporate Auditors:

    Teizo Tanaka will become an advisor to NYK responsible for compliance-related issues. Jotaro Wada will act as part-time corporate auditor.

  5. New Corporate Auditors:

    NYK will appoint Kazuhira Kamiya, incumbent executive managing director/executive officer, as in-house corporate auditor (full-time) and chairman Tsuyoshi Miyazaki of Mitsubishi Logistics Corp. as outside corporate auditor (part-time).
