Announcement of the Appointment of New President

 Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has unofficially appointed as its new president current senior managing director Koji Miyahara, 58, who will assume the president on April 1, 2004.

 In conjunction with senior managing director Miyahara's promotion, incumbent president Takao Kusakari will become chairman, although he will retain his representative rights.

 Both appointments will be official on January 29, when NYK convenes a meeting of its board of directors.

April 2000   Assumed the post of manager in charge of the Container Trade Management Group's North America business.
June 2000   Elected to a directorship.
June 2002   Assumed the post of managing director.
June 2003   Assumed the post of senior managing director.
