Supplying Schools with Success
Yusen Logistics (Americas) Warehouse Division in Long Beach, California, helped local schools start off the school year right by holding a school supplies drive. Our employees partnered with a local company in collecting items to help provide elementary and middle schools with new school supplies. YLA employees donated pens, pencils, scissors, markers, crayons, binders, paper, glue, and so much more.
Go Dirty Girl Mud Run
In April, a group of ladies from the Atlanta office of NYK Line (North America) Inc. participated in the “Go Dirty Girl Mud Run,” a non-competitive 5-kilometer challenge. The event, complete with wall-climbs and mud pits, donated a portion of its proceeds to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. To pay homage to their ocean-carrier employer, the group donned nautical-themed costumes to complete the challenge. In addition to supporting breast cancer research, “Dirty Girl Mud Run” coordinates with the GreenSneakers, which collets the muddy shoes of participants and sanitizes them for use in developing countries.
Improving Odds for Kids One Basket at a Time
Every year, the Jacksonville office donates to a charitable organization during the Thanksgiving season, and last year it was decided to contribute to the children's charity named “Daniel.” Daniel is a local organization that has offered services to abused, abandoned, and neglected children for over 123 years. Daniel reached out to the community to help provide Thanksgiving baskets, which would include canned goods, stuffing, pie filling, crust, and other things for those in need.
NYK angels race for a cure
In September 1997, Nikki Spano, an employee at NYK Logistics (Americas) Inc., was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer at the young age of 29. Fortunately, the estrogen-receptor positive cancer was discovered in its early stages. Eight years later, she started volunteering for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, in Memphis, Tennessee, and shortly thereafter, the NYK Angels were formed to lend a helping hand. Since then, the Memphis office has helped to raise money for this foundation by participating in the race.
